MOLD AND EMOTIONS: A DIRECT LINK

My visit to the coastal islands Saturna and Salt Spring Island, in British Columbia, continue to inspire me. The thing that struck me most, at least at first, was the incredible humid and rainy weather. But this type of weather was also awaiting here in Ottawa and in many other places in the world such as Germany, where the Danube is currently spreading out of its bed for hundreds of miles.

A voracious destroyer of life
Fascinating to see the strong forces
of growth and decay
at work in this park, close to Victoria.
In extreme kapha conditions, one of the most dangerous creature finds a haven:
mold, black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum) being the worst.

When mold is established inside walls and other surfaces, health problems develop too. Some people can also develop mysterious symptoms that are often mis-diagnosed. For others, lungs are under attack, ability to manage stress plummets and depression can take hold to the point of bringing suicidal tendencies. Seriously! Again, the ayurvedic logic of balancing the elements with one another is helpful here. A mixture of certain essential oils such as cinnamon, cloves, rosemary and oregano can help in the air and on hard surfaces, but not on porous ones like fabric, mattresses and clothing. The method is complex and takes time.

The connection with emotions?
Previous articles in this blog described how emotions are related to the elements. Since mold lives in wet environments, it is easy to see that emotional mold can develop the same way as its physical counterpart. Wet emotions or emotional patterns that sit in the darkness for lack of care and awareness spread, fester and take over. Although we all have a strong light within that wants us to thrive, mold can make even the strongest falsely believe that the light is gone, that life is not worth living and that self-destruction is the only solution.
With awareness, perspective and balanced elements,
the soul can fly.

Solutions
As always, prevention is the best medicine. Don’t wait until you have to leave the house, either physically or emotionally. Don’t leave wet rags laying around. Take action. Many specialists can help with the physical mold once it’s ingrained. But what to do with emotional "wet rags"? Powerful methods include meditation, care of the physical body, keeping in touch with people, and service to others. And if you think that anger is hot and dry only, think again: the often forgotten element in Pitta's fire constitution is water.

Let the sun shine in!
A magnificent process!
The beauty of being aware of your emotions is that that you have no choice but to pay attention to your state of being. Uncomfortable as it may be, awareness of emotional discomforts leads you to your power, to your source of light and to your connection with love and life. Your soul, when you listen to it, leads you to the source of help that you need, even when you are not be able to stay fully detached from the drama emotions like to create

When you feel the presence of an emotional "wet rag" in your inner environment, observe it without judgment. This creates breathing space to relax. Then do nothing. The Practical Awakening and the Balance Your Emotions with Aromatherapy courses both provide very efficient techniques and knowledge to anchor that powerful practice.
